Today, we have CPPB Practical. Guess what ? Something cropped up. Dr Soo said that the schedule for our class had messed up. Why ? there's confusion on which group is doing what experiment & which group need not come... My group supposed to do Expt 4 but we do Expt 3 instead... Dr Soo followed the Week 7 groupings. Actually, week 7 we dun have practical coz of Vesak Day Holiday. So, we thought that we follow on from the schedule on the lab manual, which is week 11 groupings. In the end, next 2 weeks, week 13, instead of having holidays for our group, we have to come back for Expt 4. =( haiz. Never mind....

After that, IOC lesson on Aromatic Compounds & EMI on Partial Differentiation. After lessons, went to FC2 with Wenxu & Bhuvan to discuss qns from Math PBL... Then, I went home around 3 plus...

Yeah, that's about it. Tmr, MIGHT get back CPPB test paper results !!! Hoping to get 80%... For now, i keep my fingers crossed !!! =P

Wednesday, 27 June 2007

Today, lesson starts at 9, with IOC. Supposed to finish at 11 but extended to 12 coz of 1hr make-up.No ITM lesson today. Mr Lam told us that the test will postponed to 4/7, which is next wed.

After IOC, there's 3 hours break. I ate lunch at FC3, then went to the lib to revise for CPPB Test 1. At the quiet zone, I saw the 1B/21 girls, one of them is Lina. I saw her practicing the qns from past year exam papers. She let me use her papers to revise back. How kind she is !!! =D She also got taught me a new formula, which eventually appeared in the test !!! so lucky ! Just learn the formula, it appears in the test paper. Thanks Lina =D. After that, went to the classroom to start for the test.

Speaking of CPPB test, I'm able to do it. The qns are average & managable. I can do mostly the qns but I'm not sure whether I will be getting the right answers or not. At least I've tried my best.

Yeah, that's about it. tmr, CPPB practical with Dr Soo as well as IOC & EMI lesson. =D

Tuesday, 26 June 2007

Just reached home... Today, got back 2 test results, which is engg math & Spreadsheet. First lesson is Engg Math, where I got back the paper. I got 83/100 !!! I was happy to hear that... The highest was 98 !!! it is none other than Haikal !!! Congrats Haikal... =D

Next lesson was spreadsheet. I got 58/96, which is around 60%... But, must add 4% from e-learning quiz, which i got 3 /4 to get 61/100... I feel that this test is actually average, it's just that i didnt practice more on different functions

As for CPPB, I just got to know that next wed is industrial visit. We are going to Khong Guan Biscuit factory, which is near Jln Boon Lay !!! Looking foward to that. that means I cant go for Sudoko Challenge or Report writing workshop... =(. But, never mind.

Yeah, that's about today. tmr, CPPB Test on chapt 1... So nervous !!! =D As usual, I'll aim for 70%.

Back to SP =D

Today... 1st day of school after term break. All goes smoothly, lessons as per normal, get to meet my classmates back as well as my lecturers !!! =D. During IDEA module, we learn about experience design. There's upcoming presentation, which is the last one of ICA... Today, NO ITM lesson as Dr Tay is away to NZ for 1 week. that means, we had 3 hours break... =D During IOC, we continue the lesson on addition of Alkenes. Mr Lam told us that Mrs Susan Khong, our IOC practical teacher, is going to retire from SP... So, he's going to take over the remaining expt + another lecturer (I wonder who)... During RWP, Mr Seto asked whether we had done the Aspirin presentation or not... Most of our classmates have not done yet... Guess What ? Our group's presentation is in week 13, 2.20-3pm slot. That's good actually coz the sooner we finish, the better it is & more rest & time to do other stuffs !!! The slot that we get is by drawing lots... =D

Yeah, that's about it for today. Tmr, CPPB Tutorial shift to 1-2pm slot for our class !!! =D I have a Upcoming test, which is CPPB !! Test on chapt 1...

Today, reached home at 12.45pm after taking svc 197 from Marine Parade then transfer to svc 198 at Jurong East. It was a 2 hour bus ride in all. =D I'll now share with u guys what happen on 2nd day...

Yesterday, I reach at the chalet at 12.15 to put my stuffs that i bought then I go out again to go to Bedok for fri prayer at Al-Ansar Mosque. Then, I wait for Wenxu & Bhuvan at interchange since they did not know the place... We took svc 196 & then walk 10 mins via underpass !!! It was a long walk but i'm used to it. When we reach there, I saw Yim Hui, geraldine,Kai Hong, Cass, the malay guys. June went home already as well as yad.

Since the games have not started yet & not everybody is here too, we decided to take a rest in an air-con room. Our chalet has only 1 double storey air-con room. We chat & play games. Around the afternoon, we played a game where we throw water bombs using trash bags !!! It was fun. we won the game agianst the girls (my group only boys & Cass). Yad came back with the satay that he brought for us !!! ... Unfortunately, last min he can't join us due to unseen circumstances... =(

BBQ started around 5 pm when I saw Haikal & Khair were busy fan-ing the pit to start the fire. The food that we bought for BBQ are Sausages, fruits, fishball,Fried rice, corns & prawns... From the time where we play the games to setting up the BBQ, fiq, Shi min & Choco have not reach here yet... I got to know that they are actually collecting some foods & items from fiq's house as well as buy a birthday cake for Shan Bei ( her birthday is 2 days ago). Tat's why they are late. Poor Shi min, She told me that She spent $3 on transportation !!! =D

We start to bbq items & we had pictures taken too from Wenxu's camera... It's 6 plus at that time & Dr Tay has not come yet. Then, I decided to give him a call. he told me that he has not idea that the bbq is actually yesterday !!! He thought that it is today !!! haha =D He told me that he will come together with his family at 10.30pm... Guess What ? Something happen unexpectedly.

I was shocked to see that my family came over !!! I didn't know !!! It was a surprised. My aunt & cousin also came. They just want to see us. (btw, Bhuvan, wenxu & Yim Hui went home early as they can't stay overnight ) At 10.30, Dr Tay arrived with his family... He got 2 daughters, Clare & Sheryl !!! Sheryl was pretty & cute !!! =D About 15 mins later, we decided to get ready with the birthday celebration !!! Shan Bei & Hwee Sze went out to throw rubbish... Shan Bei came back with a blidfold & we surprised her with the cake & the bear. She was speechless & shocked !!! We sang her a birthday song. The cake was nice !!!

After that, we play games like Ding Dong, etc !!! It was damn fun !!! I really love it... Around 11.45pm, we play the water bomb game again... This time, more ppl are playing !!! Our group won !!! Yipee !!! thanks to teamwork & cooperation !!! In our group was choco, shan Bei,Khair,Geraldine,Zhi Wen & me. =D Since our grp won, Haikal decides to have a hand shake between each other... Suddenly, something unpleasant happen !!! I don't wanna talk about it... =X

After that, we decided to go for night cycling at about 2am... The prob is i never rent a bike coz no $... Then, fiq kindly ask whether i wanna cycle or not... He allows me to use his bicycle !!! How kind was he... He dun want coz he's tired... all are going except Choco,Cass & fiq

We cycle as a whole grp. Btw, Zhi Wen is trying so hard to learn to ride the bicycle. I realised that she learnt quite fast... she can cycle far distance but she kept stopping. She just need to work on balancing !!! I believe that she can do it =D

At about 3 plus, we decided to turn back as Zhi Wen dun wanna cycle anymore. By the time I reach back, I feel really tired that I cant open my eyes alreay. Kampung Bahru (future station): NIL

Outram Park: named after sir James Outram

Lucky, we got transportation as my dad's boss allowed him to use the company's van ... When we reach there, Most of my relatives reached there early. As usual, I unpacked items out like food. Speaking of food, there are lotsa of food there like cocktails, corn, chicken wings, cake, sausages & so much more. My family brought my mum's favourite sambal tumis and hard-boiled eggs. At night, bro mamat & sis imah organised some games and lucky draws... ( btw, they are the organisers of this chalet thingy). Guess What ? I won the 12th out of 46th prize, which is a wall clock from the lucky draw... =D

Yesterday, i wake up early at 4am as i cant sleep at the chalet coz i feel uncomfortable... i only managed to sleep for 2 hours only !!!. My mum cook Nasi Lemak for breakfast... After breakfast, went for swim at the sea with my cousins... It was fun !!! After washed up, there's another game in the afternoon... I'm one of the 3 group leaders. We only won the 1st game (dress up ) and in th end, we ended up 3rd overall... Even though we lost but i feel happy & enjoy myself... After the game, there's another one, which is a telematch...

Singapore History Part 2

Finally the day has come !!! SP is having 2 weeks holiday !!! Happy holidays to DCP 1B22 !!!

As usual, I continue with Singapore History... Now, let me tell U the history behind it for North-South Line...

North-South Line
Jurong East: the word "jurong" probably derived from jerung which meand voracious sharks in malay. Another version is jurong came from the word jew-orang means there are jews community way back in the 70s... Since this part of jurong is located in the east side, therefore. it's called Jurong East !!! =D

Bukit Batok: There are 3 versions of it. 1) According to Javanese Village Chief, coconout trees used to grow there Hence, the name Batok means a javanese term for coconuts.2) Chinese intrerpret the hills as solid granite contains there & hence called batu, the maly word for stone. 3) The last version meant htat the cold air in the area, which led to coughs & colds, conferred on the place the name Batok, the malay term for cough. This reminds of the days when the area had a large granite quarry at Little Guilin as coughing refers to sound of explosives used.

Bukit Gombak: In malay, gombak means a bunch or collection of something

Choa Chu Kang: CCK is derived from teochew word "Kang Chu". During late 18th C, sultan of Johor allowed chinese immigrants to plant peper & gammi along the river bank. They were called kang chu because kang means river & chu means the clan name of first headman in chrge of plantation in the area.

Yew Tee: it means " oil Pond" in Teochew because oil was stored there during Japanese occupation.

Sungai Kadut (FUTURE unplanned station) : NIL

Kranji: It is named after a local tree, the kranji or keranji, which was common in the first half of 19th C but has since rapidly dwindled.

Marsiling: NIL

Woodlands: NIL but probably the area used to have forest & trees there !!! =D

Admiralty: NIL

Sembawang: the earliest reference found on map of sigapore is River Tambuwang. the place is said to have got its name from the sembawang tree (kayae ferruginea)

Canberra ( FUTURE unplanned Station): NIL but the area used to live by australian navies & armies as the small roads around its vicinity reflects from Australia...

Yishun: it is a mandarin version of Nee Soon, name after Lim Nee Soon, the pineapple King who is also a banker, contractor besides owing the plantation.

Khatib: NIL

Yio Chu Kang: NIL

Ang Mo Kio: It is believed to derived from Hokien which means Westerner bridge.

Bishan: It derived from a large Cantonese Burial ground, known as Peck San ting ( in pinyin is bi shan ting), which used to cover the area.

Braddell: NIL. Ever wondered why the station is different from others ? coz it is bulid on side platform as there are HDB blocks closely located, make it impossible to build a common platform.

Toa Payoh: It is a chinese ference to big swamp ( toa means "big" and payoh means "swamp"). This area used to be swampy area , which then converted to chinese market gardens in the area.

Novena: NIL but probably it is named after the roads ( Jln Novena barat & Novena Terrace) as well as named after Novena church, Church of St Alphonsus.

Newton: It is named after Howard Newton, the assistant Municipal Engineer in late 19th C .

Orchard: It derived from Nutmegs, pepper & fruit orchids that used to lie on either side of the street in the 1800s.

Somerset: NIL

Dhoby Ghaut: or Dhobi Ghat, literally means washing place in Hindi, from Dhobi- literally meaning washerman or one that does laundry and ghat- generically meaning a large open space.

City Hall : As the name suggests, it is located in the central area !!!

Raffles Place: named after Sir Stamford Raffles, where he lands besides the spore river.

Marina Bay : NIL but the term has largely been attached to the developments in the viccinity of Marina Mall in the Marina South.

Next Week, I'll continue with World's first heavy automated rail system, North-East Line... =D

Singapore History Part 1

As promised, every sunday, I'm going to post something that isn't related to my life... 1st topic of the year is Singapore's History

As we know, Do u guys realised that we have a lot of singapore names (especially malay names) around Singapore ?? For e.g in a MRT system, we have chinese & malay names but have guys wondered what each name means ??? Below are the names & the history behind it:

East-West Line
Pasir Ris: The original name that was first in 1852 is Passier Reis in a village. But, there's contraction to the name, Pasir Hiris ( where Pasir means "sand" & Hiris means "to Shred"). this place is known to be white sands because Pasir Ris is located along the sandy beaches !!!

Tampines: It is named after an ironwood tree, tempines. The area was once a plantation, a village, forest as well as sand quarrying area in the 80s !!!

Simei: The original spelling is "See May"... The original name is a pinyin for 4 beauties in chinese. There were several other chinese names around the area at tht time. But, due to difficulty in pronouncing the names on the road, the govt decides to name the roads as Simei st 1-6.

Tanah Merah: This name is considered as old name that appears in the map as Tana Mera. It is derived from red lateritic cliffs around the area. (i.e Tanah means soil & Merah means red)

Bedok: The name derived from "Bedoh", a malay word for a "large drum" that is used for calling people to a mosque for prayers...

Kembangan: It means "expansion" in malay.

Eunos: named after Eunos Abdullah, a wealthy business man who is respected by the malay community.

Paya Lebar: Paya means "swamp" & lebar means "wide". It is used to be a swampy area.

Aljunied: named after Syed Omar bin Ali Aljunied. He was highly respected by malay community as a prince and as a descendent of muhammad, founder of Islam

Kallang: named after a group of orang laut called Biduanda Kallang. However there are many versions to it. It can be the meaning of "kelang", which means "mills" in malay as there are rice mills there or "galang", which means "to put a boat on wooden stocks & roll".

Lavender: NIL

Bugis: named after a ethnic group that came from Sulawesi,Indonesia that migrate here.

Today, went to ustaz's place for a wedding ceremony... his daughter is married with an iraqi guy... I went there with my father to help the buffet thingy... the rest of my family members will come to help in a later day, after 2.Things were started to a smooth pace as not many people are there yet but when it's come at 3-6pm, the peak period was there..

I had to carry all the dishes to washing area, top up foods, serve the guests & much much more until my legs are tired... The experience that I will nvr forget is to hold the bunga manggar and accompany the bride & bride groom to the stage !!! First of a kind for me !!! =D... The komang played was melodious and I enjoyed the food there ( it was alot of dishes)... the food was delicious & i ate two times... one in the afternoon & one in the evening... haha =D

After the whole thing, it's time for a clean up. What make me amazed is the food leftover is alot !!! until me & my family needs to bring back a lot of food... I enjoyed packing the foods together with other people. i think the food that we brought today can last for 1 week which means my mum doesn't need to cook !!! =D gd for her

Well, i really enjoyed myself there but feeling tired & ache on my legs after many rounds of walking to & fro... It's been a busy day for me & my family I enjoyed it !!! =D
