DCP/FT/1B/22

So far, my life @ SP was a full blast... Thanks to my classmates. Well, everything went smooth but I just hope that I can find a true riend that I can talk to...

Just wanna share about my class, 1B22. This class in the beginning was so quiet. But when the day goes by, things started to warm up. Everyday, the malay guys cheer me & the class up with funny jokes... The girls hehe haha all the way even during the lesson. There's one particular guy that I find him funny... SHAFIQUE !!! his laughter was truly damn funny lor... After I read fayyadh's blog, now I understand why the guys laugh so much... Even just now, during the lunch break, Haikal was so damn blur & funny.... I keep laughing at him !!!! lol =D. I think he's tired & has no idea of his surroundings... Bhuvan also cheer us up too with his lame jokes & funny sounds... =D I truly like this class very much.... I love to see people cracks jokes as it brightens up my mood.

Another group of people is the chinese gals.... there's one time that they teased & joke me alot... pestered me to buy lab-coat, so called "Zhi Wen controversy", the gigs & the gags & so on... the gals very funny... =D there's one RWP lesson which we go thru about the problem face by SP students thingy... actually, there's a shortcut to walk from T6 to T11A without passing thru FC5... =D walk pass by FC3 and walk thru T14, go up & tada..... reach already... I do agree that there's lack of signages for us to walk around... dun forget the FC problem too...

So far, I have been enjoying life @ Sp for the 1st 2 weeks... it's just that the ITM (Introduction to Microbiology) module is quite tough for me as I does not have any Biology background... =( Pressure isn't there yet but I'm prepared to be stressful in the weeks to come. So, Just enjoy it for the time being & hope to have true friends...

1st 2 days in SP

The 1st day of poly was going to a smooth start & trying to adapt to poly life (as I'm used to Pri and sec sch style). At the 1st place, I feel disappointed coz I have no friends to mix with but hey, that's normal coz It takes courage to face with people & in the end, I make 5 new friends... I had my first lesson on the topic of Atomic Structure yesterday from Inorganic & organic chemistry module... For ur info, This module is somewhat equals to A-level Chemistry !!! =D Thank God that I learnt it in my first 3 mth @ MI. My class was pretty ok too. At the first place, it was damn quiet but when the day goes by, the class is a bit noisy.

Today, I was happy coz I'm going to be the class rep of my class !!! (DCP/FT/1B/22). I thought that the girl volunteer to be it but I found out that she's been forced by our personal tutor... By the way, if U are the class rep, U'll earn 4 CCA bonus points !!!! My intention is not really the CCA pts but I love to serve people.... That's why. To me, being a class rep bonds me & my classmates together... The campus was big but I'm familiar with it coz I have been to SP b4 (Last year CFP 2006). I also went for the CCA fair yesterday & today to see what's in store for me (80 plus CCAs !!! ) Split for choice !!! =D I have a lot of CCAs in my mind. My options are SP Gym,SP Dragon Boat, SP Environment Club, SP Assistant Course & Career Guidance Officers (SPAC2GO) & SP Leo.... I'm also thinking of taking NYAA Gold award & later part of the year a Sports Elective Programme (FREE !!!) .

Like I said,in poly life, there's alot of things that U can do apart from just studying... i really enjoy the poly life. Next time, I'll tell U what's the difference between Sec sch life & poly life... =D

More information about my diploma course (Chemical Process Tehnology)

This Course is the only course that is offered by Singapore Polytechnic (SP). The modules that I''m going to take for 1st year,Semester 1 are as follows :


Inorganic & Organic Chemistry
Provides students with the essential knowledge and understanding of the fundamental principles of Inorganic and Organic Chemistry. It enables students to understand the theoretical basis of physical and chemical properties of molecules. Students will also have a broad understanding of the chemical reactions of the various functional groups of organic compounds.

Introduction to Microbiology
Provides students with an overview and appreciation of the biology of microorganisms. The module will emphasize, with some relevant examples, on the importance of microorganisms to man and the environment. Students will have practical experience on some microbiological techniques.

Chemical Process Principles B
Provides basic concepts of chemical engineering. Students will learn gas and solution laws, the concepts of thermodynamics and material and energy balances. It also provides an overview of various unit operations, its principles and applications in chemical process industries. In addition, students will visit production plant where they will gain an appreciation of various processes in the industries.

Reporting Writing & Presentation
Aims to help students acquire the skills necessary to prepare and write reports and to make oral presentations to an audience. Students will learn to appreciate the purpose of their report as well as the expectations of their intended reader. In putting together the report, students will learn to organise their information in a reader-friendly way and write in Standard English. For report presentation, areas stressed include verbal and non-verbal language, audience awareness, voice quality and use of visual aids.

Engineering Mathematics I
Equips students with an adequate knowledge of mathematics to enable them to understand and solve problems encountered in their course of studies. The topics include strength of materials, basic mechanics, Newton-Raphson numerical method, differentiation, partial differentiation and their applications. Students also learn how to use mathematical software.

Application Software - Spreadsheet
Aims to get students acquainted with the use of an electronic spreadsheet. They will have plenty of hands-on practical exercises. On completion of this module, students should have gained enough knowledge, experience and confidence to explore further into this application software.

Innovation, Design & Enterprise in Action


I'm taking a total of 7 modules ( in sec sch is called subjects) for this semester. My class name is DCP/FT/1B/22. There are 14 DCP classes. Total number of students in my class is 18 ppl (7 guys & 11 girls). My Personal/Class tutor is Dr Tay Hong Soon. Semester 1 is from 16 Apr to 11 Aug with a term break from 10 Jun to 24 Jun.

Westwood Alumni meeting

Today, I had an alumni meeting with Mdm Siti Hajar with my other alumni friends at 11am. The agenda is about the contact list that we compile during the release of O-level Results. Another agenda is making of alumni card for us to wear with the lanyard. After the meeting, we discussd about Westwood's progress. I heard alot of stories and I found out that Westwood reputation is getting down... =( I'm lazy to list down as there were a lot that Mdm siti told us. Westwoodians, what happened ? I'm very disappointed coz my former sec sch is in this state. How dare U guys bring down the name of Westwood !!! Our previous batches work so hard to maintain the name of Westwood & U guys just easily ruin it. Remember what Ms Kok mentioned b4 ? If U don't bring glory to Westwood, don't bring disgrace !!!! REMEMBER THAT !!!

The next alumni meeting is scheduled to be in May 5th...

SP Flag Day 2007

Today is SP Flag Day... All SP freshmen need to undergo this as part of SP CORE values... I was assigned to Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station. I arrived at the Exit A at about 8am... I start collecting donations. This Donation is in support of the President's Challenge 2007. During the peak period, Members of the public did donate while some did not... (I Understand) At least, some of them gave me a smile when they decline to donate. There's one incident that I 'll never forget. It happened at about 10.30am when there's a man talking to me about Singapore. He mentioned about Singapore that contribute less to the poor people... I listened to him throughout. To me, it sounds rude but what he said might be true. That's the incident that I'll never forget. I continued the donation. Throughout the day, the sun is so hot that I'm feeling BBQ by it !!!... Damn hot. After 10am, the crowd is getting lesser & lesser & the rate is slower but I dun want to move elsewhere coz there are other SP freshmen walking around. Most of the donars donated a max of $2. So GENEROUS !!! I did try to approach ppl most of the time (in the beginning I stand like a statue coz so long nvr do flag day ). I'm not just alone there.. I got a SP fellowmate too... I did have time to mingle with him... After so long, I decided to leave at 1 plus as I wanna do my prayers. After I do my prayers, I went back to SP and started to count the amount that I have collected. The amount that I have collected is $54.70... I feel satisfied & I have done my best today... I still have to do my worksheet b4 I went home...

SP CLS Orientation

My orientation starts at 1pm... The convention ctr (venue) was filled with people till I need to wait outside with my friend, Siti Fairuz. After a few mins, I went inside to check out my class. My Class is DCP/FT/1B/22 where DCP is my diploma... (Chemical Process Technology), FT - Full-time, 1B- Module first yr stage 1B, 22- Class no I think. When I look at the list, I saw 4 malay guys who are in the same class as me. I proceed to the registration counter to collect a class list then proceed to the convention ctr and be sitted. I managed to say HI to haikal( same class as me). While waiting, I mingle with a guy named WenXu... He looks like a China guy but he told me that he's Singaporeans... Can't believe it. When the prog starts, there were Principal add via video presentation, welcome add by Chemical & Life Sciences (CLS) Director,sing of SP sch song,etc. There were also briefing on academic matters,CLS Club & a police talk on NOtebook PC theft. Not forgetting,talk by dep of Student & Alumni Affairs (SAA), SP Library & S'pore poly Student Union (SPSU). After that, I need to proceed to T1A56 ( means Teaching Block 1A, level 5 room 6) to meet my class/personal tutor. His name is Dr Tay Hong Song. He's quite ok with the way he presents himself... He briefs us on discipline & some admin matters including the SP Flag Day, which will be held on apr 12. It involves the SP freshmen (like me !!!). Every Class is posted to different locations. It is from 8 am to 3pm. So, do support us as the charitable organisation is the President Challenge 2007... =D

Tomorrow, I will undergo a notebook PC training known as SPICE Training... I dun remember what is SPICE stands for... lol =D

BBQ organised by SP Primers

Yesterday, I went for a bbq @ Aloha Resorts (Changi) organised by SP PRIMERS. I have to be at Tampines MRT Station by 5.15pm but i arrived at 5.05pm... lol so early =D. The event will start at 6 but it delayed coz we have to wait for ppl to meet at the meeting place. We only left Tampines Interchange by taking svc 29 at 6.30... After a long time, we arrived at a ulu place. We then have to walk some distance inside along a narrow road named Leuchars Rd... The place was ulu but the area is surrounded with buildings (chalets). The name of the bungalow that we are going was Fairytale Bungalow 2... When we arrived there, I was told to place our bags inside & assemble in the field next to it. We are playing games at that time. We played games like "Forest,fire,earthquake" game, the line game ( I can't remember the actual name of the game) & more. After we played some games, We had a BBQ feast & Buffet... It was yummy. Then, we had a chat with Vimel, my grp leader, who shares us some story that's scary and funny.. One of them is SP sch of Business is haunted, the story of a RED BRIDGE (that links Block T21 & T22 around the business block too... I had fun !!! Around 9pm, I decided to go home as it is late... I went home with my 2 friends. They take svc 29 back to Tampines MRT as they lived around the East side while I take svc 2 to Lavender MRT. I decided to take a MRT coz it's already late... I reached home at around 11.45pm.

Good Friday Holiday

Good Friday today isn't that good for me. Today I did not go anywhere... Just going for Friday Prayer with my dad. Actually, wanna go to West Coast Park as a whole family but I dun want to coz my sister is schooling, my younger sis went out doing video project with her friends... Then left 3 ppl... me & my parents. My intention is actually family gathering but since my sis busy with their own stuffs, might as well I stay at home but my parents still going to the park. At home, I just stared at my new Lenovo Thinkpad R60 laptop, surfing net. My laptop is giving me a headache for the past few days... haiz. I hope that it'll go back to normal as soon as b4 school starts...

Tomorrow, I'm going to Aloha resorts (Changi) for a bbq organise by SP Primers (one of the CCAs)...

SP Self-certification Notebook PC

Firstly, I will like to say that hey, it's APRIL !!! Time files so fast... I'm gonna start school real soon... (can't wait).

Ok, let's get back to the topic... Today, i woke up very early to do my self-cert to my notebook PC. I went out at 7 & hoping to catch the 7.10 bus (svc 185)... but in the end, the bus came at 7.23 am... The reason: 2 buses came together... I have no idea what happen at that time. I reached SP at 8 plus... I straight away do my self-cert.The self-cert starts at 8am & ends at 1pm (morning shift). In the first place, i dun know what to do but i did read the instruction booklet. I was given 2 CDs... one is Windows XP Professional and the other one is HDD partition... First, i need to split my HDD (Hard Disk Drive) into 2... After that, installing Windows XP Professional. Along the way, there were difficulties throughout the process... In the end, I have to come back the next day to complete it as I was given only 5 hrs to complete.

3 Apr - I woke up as per normal like the previous day. Thank God that svc 185 arrive on time. I continue mi installation. There were lotsa of things that I must finish. The software that I need to install is Microsoft Office 03, Frontpage,Visual Studio,Java and more... Apart from installing software, I also need to configure my laptop that follows with SP standard requirements. I finish at around 11 plus. I have still alot of time remaining. What I did was installing other software that's realated to my laptop. I went home at about 12 plus...
